Why It’s Important to read nutrition labels (So You Don’t Get Fooled Again)

Front labels are marketing, not health information.
Just last week, a client picked up a “High Protein” breakfast bar. The bold claim made it sound like the perfect snack for energy and satiety.
But when we flipped it over?
21g of protein… and 28g of sugar!
That’s more sugar than a Snickers bar. And it's marketed as a health food!

Once they learn how to properly read a label, they stop being misled, and start healing.
Here’s how to avoid the trap:
1. Skip the front. Flip it over.
Ignore words like “clean,” “low-fat,” “gluten-free,” or “high protein.” These are sales tactics, not signs of real nourishment.
2. Check the ingredient list.
Look for:
5 ingredients or fewer
Words you can pronounce
Foods you’d find in your kitchen
Avoid:
Unrecognizable chemicals
Artificial sweeteners
“Natural flavors,” gums, and preservatives
3. Compare fiber to sugar.
This is where most “healthy” snacks fail.
✔️ Choose foods where fiber is equal to or greater than sugar
❌ Avoid those with high sugar, even if protein is high too (in the example I gave there was more sugar than protein in the HIGH PROTEIN claim).
Remember: it’s not just about the grams of protein, it’s about the context. Protein with a sugar bomb attached won’t support your energy, your focus, or your healing.
